 Subcontract: Natural Ventilation Control

 Scope

The contract is to include system design and delivery of the necessary components and software, also the required wiring diagrams, programming parameters, commissioning and adjustment period of the entire installation of controlled Natural Ventilation.

The Solution

The solution is to be based on the WindowMaster NV ComfortTM Control System.

The control system is to incorporate the following Operation Modes:

  • Full Daytime Temperature Control during the Summer
  • Night Cooling according to individual day and zone requirements
  • Local user control function with keypads.
  • On demand CO2 control during winter
  • Pulse ventilation during winter
  • “Morning Fresh Air” function

Individual Zone Control

The control system must be programmed using a touch screen display and must divide the building into zones, each zone having its own sensors and parameters. This must enable the zones to operate independently from each other depending upon the external climate conditions on the zone façade as well as the internal usage and climate conditions within that particular zone.

Simultaneous monitoring of the indoor/outdoor temperature, CO2 levels, wind speed and precipitation

The control system must monitor the wind speed to provide accurate optimised control of the windows and the internal climate and must provide climate safety functions for rain and high wind.

Precise Incremental Control of the Window motors/actuators

The control system must provide absolute incremental control of the motors to provide the optimum position of the windows for user comfort and air change. This reduces the risk of draughts and overcooling, but maintains the acceptable indoor climate and optimises the acceptable airflow rates.

Two-Way Communication

The control system must provide two-way communication between the control system and the individual window motors/actuators, which must enable feedback to the touch screen display on the window status and exact position.

Pressure Safety Function

The control system must have the ability to provide protection against potential entrapment on specified windows by communication with the microprocessors installed within the actuators and monitoring in real-time the amount of electrical current being drawn and the precise position of the window to an accuracy of less than a millimetre. The control system must detect if an object becomes trapped in the leading edge of the window and prevent it from closing by monitoring the amount of current being drawn and then reversing the actuator to release the obstruction.

The sensitivity of the system must be adjustable, as the pressure safety function is a factor of the closing force of the actuator combined with the size and weight of the window, as well as the configuration of the window, its hinges and the rigidity of the profile itself. Therefore the overall performance and sensitivity of the system is dependent upon all these factors combined and needs to be monitored and adjusted as the required forces can change during the life of the building.

Smoke Ventilation

The system opens all windows upon receipt of a signal from the fire alarm system. For zoning please see layout sheet. There will also be a manual trigger/break glass unit for opening and closing under fire operation.

Night Cooling

The control system must provide night cooling of the building and must be able to operate with limited window openings if required, for safety and security reasons.

Three speed operation of Window Motor/Actuator

The control system must enable the motors to operate at a very slow speed when in the automatic mode, which can reduce any potential impact or disturbance to the occupants. But can also enable the motors to operate at a faster speed when activated by the manual keypads, for example, in order to provide an immediate visual response to the user. Also if used with a smoke ventilation system the actuators have a 3rd fastest speed.

Implementation

The supplier undertakes to commission the system as part of the installation and provides the necessary documentation of the installation work.

Handing over

In connection with the handing over the contractor provides introduction and training for the users of the building as well as quality assurance of the installation.
