The newest Chesalon Aged Care Centre in Malabar was opened in November 2010, with the facility demonstrating the way forward in providing quality aged care to an ageing population in Sydney.

2 Diamond Dome SUNPIPE systems were installed into the facility, bringing daylight 12 meters into the building through a complicated configuration, and almost eliminating the need for electrical lighting during the daytime.

Designed by McFadyen Architects, the Diamond Dome SUNPIPE systems were chosen for the following reasons:

  • Ability to transfer light 12 metres into the two storey facility.
  • The unique Fire Collar offered by the SUNPIPE guarantees floor to floor fire safety through the multi-floor building.
  • Higher light output and performance than alternatives on the market during times of low lying sun (early morning and late afternoon).
  • Maximised U value and low solar heat gain coefficient resulting in maximised thermal security.
